QUESTIONS: What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs? The subject i chose for my photo essay is cemeteries. I took the first few in Gibbs cemetery in Somerset Ma, and a few in Swansea at the friends meeting house, and the rest were taken at mount auburn Why did you select this place? Why is it significant or important to you? I chose the cemetery because It's a place where life is found in death. My parents love going to the cemetery to take pictures and have picnics. I used to complain whenever we would go, but now that im older i feel a connection when I go, its peaceful and serene. What concept are you trying to portray about this topic? I want to portray life in death. even though the whole place is dead, there is still life. I made sure there is some kind of color in each photo representing life. Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay? The story of my photo essay is, as i said before, "life in death." Life is found in the darkest of places. Even though cemeteries are considered a place of death, and grief, there are flowers, and trees, grass, birds, life. People come to visit their loved ones. Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos and how you visually unified the series of photos? I chose the order, by going from color to color, from stone to stone. each picture sort of leads into each other. each picture has a grave stone, and grass, or a pop of color. Which photo is the strongest in the series? My strongest photo would have to be the fifth one. I chose this one because it has color, and gravestones and light. It really portrays the story i want to tell.
